Pleased to meet you.
My name is Riaan and I like to make things. I have a broad range of experience and interests. I can make something as simple as a floating shelf from some overall dimensions, or if you need something more specialist, I can research, design, develop, and make a purpose-built piece of equipment. And of course everything in-between. I also know my limits, so if a job is too big or complicated for me to take on, I'm sure I'll be able to suggest one of my contacts.
So, if you need something designed, or if you need production drawings, a consultation, or something to be made, modified, or repaired, please get in touch. If you'd like to learn more about me, then please read more below.
Ever since I was a small boy, I've been fascinated by making things. I went to a technical school in South Africa where I learned woodworking, metalworking, motor vehicle mechanics, and electronics. No surprise then that I went on to study Mechanical Engineering, but this is only half the story. I've also been interested in design from an early age, probably not surprising, because my mother is an artist, painting wildlife and nature.
When I moved to the UK in 2005, I became a retail designer. It combined my love of engineering and design. For 15 years, I designed and developed retail furniture for most of the high street brands as well as a global technology company. I gained experience across many disciplines during this time. But I still wasn't satisfied. I needed to get out from behind the desk and get my hands dirty.
I decided to start RK Made. This allows me to design and make an amazing array of things and be truly happy.
